A Note from Holland House Candles:

As far as the mushrooms are concerned, yes, we do sell them at the shop for $2. We do not offer them online because of the wide variations in size/shape/color, we just don’t think that photos would effectively convey an accurate description of every mushroom. Also, the mushrooms are truly not meant to be burned. If lit, they will drip and generally make a little mess. That said, if you would like to purchase the mushroom that comes from your candle next time you order, just request it in the “Comments” box and let us know it is OK to charge your card for the extra $2. We can fit a mushroom in the box with your candle if you order a small or a medium size, but cannot fit a mushroom in the box with a large size candle.

Hi Valerie:
Just wanted to let you know that our candle, etc. arrived safely on Feb. 4, via UPS.

We, like so many others, must comment on the superb job of packaging which your company did. We’ve never seen anything fragile packed like that.

On opening the package we can only say that the beauty of the candle is “breathtaking”. It is even more beautiful than the video shows and surely is a true “work of art”. If you know which person actually created the candle for us, we wish you would thank him or her for us for the outstanding
workmanship which went into making this candle.

We have two questions. What is the best way to remove the little electric candle from the top of the large candle. It appears that one must turn the large candle upside down to allow the little electric candle to gently fall out (for recharging, etc.). Perhaps there is a better/safer way to do this. Also, should the electric candle be recharged in the on or off position or does it matter?

Thanks again for the beautiful (understatement) candle. We love it and can’t wait to show it to our children and friends. No doubt it will generate more orders for you.

A note from Holland House Candles: we welcome the opportunity to share a little hint that was given to us by a valued customer (Thanks Bernie!!). If you want to take the LED out of the candle without picking up the candle and turning it over, take a common tube from an empty roll of toilet paper, slit it lengthwise, and work it down around the LED when it is in the candle. If you pinch the toilet paper tube and lift, the LED will come right out!! Bernie was a genius to think of this and we are happy to share his hint. Charging the LED should be done in the “off” position.


I know that you all are very busy at this time of year, but I wanted to take a moment to tell you all thank you.

I ordered 2 of your candles back on November 5, 2011. One was shipped to my mother in Tennessee and the other to my mother-in-law in Mississippi. When I called to ask if they could be held and shipped closer to Christmas, the gentleman said that it was possible and to just notate it in the notes section of the orders. Both of them told me how beautiful their candles were and couldn’t quit talking about how they are so breathtaking. I had both of them go to your site and watch the “How it’s Made” video. They both said that you can not appreciate the candle as much, until you see the video.

To my surprise, my husband, seeing how excited I was to give these candles to our mothers, went to your website and ordered me one. It arrived yesterday. I just wanted to let you know that my order from your shop has arrived!

I was really worried about the candles’ condition, considering they had to survive a long trip across the ocean and the rarely gentle treatment from Polish Post workers. My hands were literally shaking when I was opening the package. Fortunately, all the candles are in perfect condition, even though the customs officers completely butchered your safe packaging on the big candle.

A note for the future – it would be good to put more “fragile content” labels all over the box, because the one on my box disappeared under several layers of tape that the customs people used to reseal the package.

Anyway, the candles are breathtakingly gorgeous. I was simply staring at them for several minutes, having incredible fun finding and enjoying all the intricate details. I can’t wait till Christmas so I can finally give them to my father as a gift – he is an avid candle collector and your Dutch Garden without doubt will be the crown of his entire collection.

The ladies making the candles were very polite and didn’t mind me watch them make the candles for a good half hour. Earlier this month, I ordered one of your Dutch Garden ribbon style candles as a birthday present for my mother. Her birthday is at the end of this month. The candle arrived just yesterday and I was really impressed with both the delivery time and the care with which the candle was packed for shipping. Little more than one week passed between when I placed the order and the candle arrived at my doorstep. The candle was completely wrapped in several layers of foam and bubble-wrap, far better than what I expected, thank you!

I was also impressed at the warning label on the box concerning climate. The label basically said that if the air temperature outside was below zero, the candle should be allowed to warm to room temperature overnight to avoid thermal shock. Although I live in South Florida and the climate is mild around this time of year, the meaning of the warning sticker made a lot of sense, especially if I had placed my order during the dead of winter. Believe it or not, Florida has the most unstable climate in the nation during the winter months, one day it’s mildly warm, the next it’s bitterly cold outside.

You can rest assured if anyone I know expresses interest in acquiring a carved candle for either themselves or for someone they know, you will always have my recommendation. Last of all, I want to share a weird irony with you that involves your candles. I first learned about carved candles from the Discovery channel show “How It’s Made”. That episode originally got me interested in ordering one for my mother. I ran a google search under the term “carved candles” and stumbled onto your site in the process. It took me several days to make the connection between the episode of How It’s Made and your candles. It wasn’t until I noticed the “As seen on How It’s Made” that I realized what I was looking at.

Believe it or not, while I was inspecting the candle I ordered from you last night, the very episode of How It’s Made that originally sparked my interest in it… re-aired! What are the odds that the episode that got one of your customers interested in your products in the first place would re-air on the very same day that his order arrived? It’s a weird coincidence, isn’t it?

Dear Holland House Candles,

I just wanted to email you and say how pleased I am with my order. I saw you guys on How It’s Made and was very “wowed” at the candle making and carving process. After I saw it, I did a search for carved candles online and found several other places that do different carvings. I placed an order for a carved angel. The carving was beautiful, but their protective coating didn’t coat the whole thing and didn’t look right. Also, it was damaged in the mail upon arrival. Although I sent it back and got a free replacement, the overall satisfaction of my order wasn’t really all that grand. Plus their candles used oil that’s lit from the top, so the light won’t shine through.

My order with YOU on the other hand is on the other side of the spectrum. I was extremely pleased with my order. You sent me a link where I could track my shipment, it arrived on time, it was VERY carefully packed with no possibility of damage through shipment and the candle itself is amazing! Although it’s so fragile, it wasn’t damaged at all and it’s perfect! You also kindly included another small white candle I can place inside the main one when it burns down to a point where I wouldn’t want it to burn to the bottom, and then I could just put that one in there.

Come Christmas, I know what I getting for some of my friends and family! Thank you for being such a careful packaging company and putting so much attention to detail and care into your products!
